Welcome Bags For Out-of-Town Wedding Guests

On many occasions I have written about how popular destination weddings are. I would like to share some ideas regarding what you can put in welcome bags to extend a special thank-you to your guests for traveling long distances to be with you. There are many options to choose from and with a little extra time and energy; you'll bring smiles to their faces (without placing a big dent in your wallet).

Below are some things they will love to find in their bags.

Delicious treats.Nothing hits the spot more after a day of traveling then an assortment of yummy treats waiting in the hotel room. Gift bags tailored to a guests individual tastes will always speak louder than generic snack packs. If you know that a guest likes to unwind at the end of a long day with a glass of wine, have a bottle waiting in the room. A chocoholic would be thrilled to find some chocolate treats upon arrival. If your out-of-town guest list is too extensive to afford personal attention, gift bags stocked with local goodies are great and will give your guests a taste of the area. Be sure to find out from the hotel concierge the best way to get the gifts distributed to guests, as well as when you should drop them off. Some hotels charge a fee per bag so be sure to figure that into the budget.

Make them feel pampered. A day spent stuffed in little seats with no legroom, and lots of dry air, is enough to make anyone cranky. Think about putting some spa products in their gift bags. A number of companies offer collections of scented aromatherapy products formulated for specific results such as stress relief or extra energy. There are even some geared towards travelers, with formulas that promote restful sleep and reduce the effects of jet lag.

Be helpful. Putting together a local survival kit that contains all of the information your guests might need for their short stay is extremely thoughtful. Some items to include:

  • Menus from local restaurants
  • A list of taxi and/or car services, including phone numbers
  • Maps, brochures and guides for local places of interest and public transportation
  • Local magazine to help familiarize them with the area
  • Directions to the nearest pharmacy
  • Directions to the nearest same-day dry cleaners
  • Itineraries and driving instructions from hotel to all wedding events and back again

Whether you opt for pampering or just plain delicious your guests will have fond memories of the wonderful time they had at your wedding.
